MONO — Cityscapes & Architecture
MONO is a project that began in late 2019 and underwent a rebrand and redesign in 2020 to better align with its core theme—the beauty of monotony and greyscale photography. This concept book is a visual exploration of minimalism, light, shadow, and texture, capturing moments of stillness and simplicity through a black-and-white lens while still being highlighted by a beautiful indigo.
Concept & Design Approach
Photography as Narrative – The book showcases a personal collection of photographs taken during my travels abroad, each frame emphasizing atmosphere, composition, and contrast rather than color. The absence of color brings focus to the raw emotion and structure within each shot.
Aesthetic & Layout – Designed for print in an 8.5 x 11” booklet format, the layout is clean and understated, allowing the images to breathe while maintaining a strong visual flow throughout the book.
Typography & Branding – The typography is carefully selected to complement the minimalistic nature of the project, with a modern and restrained typeface that enhances the sense of cohesion and continuity.
Rebranding Evolution – Originally conceptualized in 2019, the project was refined in 2020, incorporating a more structured editorial design approach while staying true to its core theme of monotony and restraint.
MONO is not just a photography book; it’s a meditation on the quiet beauty of repetition, structure, and greyscale aesthetics. It serves as a personal yet universal study of how the absence of color can amplify meaning, turning the ordinary into something profound.
